Ummm, Can you Believe This....

I read this at komoradio.com. This is shocking, believable, but still out of control....

By Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A cancer patient says she was left alone in a CT scanner for hours after a technician apparently forget about her, and she finally crawled out of the device, only to find herself locked in the closed clinic.

Elvira Tellez of Tucson said she called her son in a panic, and he told her to call 911.

Pima County sheriff's deputies arriving at the oncology office had her unlock the office door to let them in, said Deputy Dawn Hanke, a department spokeswoman. The deputies contacted the office manager, who was not aware of the situation.

Tellez was taken to a hospital as a precaution, then released early the next day.

Tellez said she's had trouble sleeping since last week's incident. She and her family said they want an explanation from the medical office, Arizona Oncology Associates, but have yet to receive one. She said the technician did call to apologize the next day.

"I don't know what to think," Tellez said in Spanish. "I think and think and think, but I can't understand it."

The executive director of Arizona Oncology Associates, Sonya Hohm, was in a meeting Friday and not immediately available for comment, her assistant said. The assistant said no one else at the statewide medical practice was authorized to comment.

Diagnosed with bone cancer, the 67-year-old Tellez had been sent to the clinic for tests to see if her cancer had spread.

A technician placed her inside the large machine at about 4 p.m. on Sept. 19, dimmed the lights so she could relax and told her not to move during the 25-minute procedure.

"At some point, my mom lost track of time and felt like too much time had passed, but she couldn't look at a clock or anything because it was dark," her son Ariel Tellez said.

After calling out, then screaming for help, she said, she spent several hours trying to free herself from the machine. Finally, she wiggled out from under a heavy blanket and out of the machine. By the time deputies found her, it had been five hours since she was placed inside.

A physician who works at the practice and knew of the incident told The Arizona Daily Star it's not the first time such a thing has happened.

"People have been left in the office after hours, when something like that happens - it's the same sort of thing," Dr. Steven Ketchel said. "My guess is she was lying on the table, waiting and waiting and nobody told her she could go home."

Raleigh, NC

So my best friend Susana moved from Georgia to Fayetteville, NC a few years ago (has it really been that long already? Sheesh, where does the time go!) and I really want to take a trip out there to visit her and more importantly order a Mocha Raquel from her new coffee shop. But alas, to go anywhere takes money, of which I have some but not quite enough at this time (or time for that matter), BUT there is a fantastic contest for people to enter and win a trip to Raleigh, NC (yes, in my mind Raleigh equates Fayetteville!). Hello, a FREE Raleigh Getaway...how cool would that be!?! Anyways....I've have always heard great things about North Carolina...the beauty of the state, the food you can eat (oh, good ol' Southern Style cookin'), and the sites and sounds of entertainment. I'm sure visiting Raleigh in the fall would be an amazing sight to see. Winning this fall getaway will entail the winner to the following:

  • One night accommodations for two at the Courtyard by Marriott Raleigh Crabtree Valley
  • $25 gift certificate to Bloomsbury Bistro
  • Free VIP admission for two to Rum Runners
  • 2 tickets to the North Carolina Theatre
  • 2 tickets to the N.C. Museum of Art’s Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism
  • 2 tickets to Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences
Mamma Mia! I would definitely enjoy a trip to the theatre and I'm sure Susana would appreciate a stroll through the art museum....plus lunch for two at a quaint little Bistro...um, yum! Have I told you how delicious food cooked in the South is? Out of this world!!
Really what do you have to lose by going and checking out the contest and seeing all that Raleigh has to offer....hmm, let me see...you could lose the opportunity to see theatre, the arts, eat good food, checking out the fall scenery, the Raleigh nightlife, and new discoveries that you would never have found before. So, in actuality you could be missing out if you don't check it out!

I am....

....such an unmotivated slacker right now. That's right! I have no ambition to do anything...ugh!!! Why does this really matter? Oh because, I am supposed to be working on a new class for school AND I am supposed to be taking a pre-assessment for an upcoming test. Have I done either? Of course not!! I really truly need to get my act together. Granted the new term doesn't start until November 1st; however, wouldn't it be better if I had a head start on the term? Of course it would! Ok...so here is the deal...I will take the 2.5 hours (YES, 2 1/2 hours...ugh) pre-assessment exam before I go to work on Monday. So I will either take it Sunday sometime or Monday morning. I will then spend some time on Thursday looking through the requirements for the next class I have..which is Testing in the Classroom....shouldn't be hard; however, it is giving me a slight case of heebie jeebies!! I've gotten lazy since I haven't had to do any schooling in the last month!!! Ok....back on track...we're motivated....we can do this....wait a minute, what is all this we stuff, it is just lonely ol' ME!! I can do this!!!!

Alternative Education

As most of you know I am in graduate school studying for my Teacher Certification. I am obviously a staunch supporter of education and establishing a career. However, attending a four-year university or graduate school is not the way to achieve a career for everyone. There are individuals who don't do the best at school and there are individuals who want to specialize in just one area...now you can. One particular career path that is quite popular and quite lucrative is real estate, and it is a business you can do all over the US! For those of you in California who are studying for the California real estate exam, there is a great FREE download of information for you. It is an exam prep software that helps you pass the test...and it's FREE!! How much better can you get than that?!?

Interesting

Susana sent this to me yesterday...we both find it very interesting.

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by itslef but the wrod as a wlohe.

Our discussion of this revolved around whether you had to be a fluent reader to completely understand it and if it would work in other languages. She is going to try writing it out in Spanish and seeing if her parents can read it...I am looking forward to the results of that one. Anyway, just wanted to share the weird and unusual with you today!

Credit Card

Are you trying to find a credit card that provides a decent APR, helps with transferring balances and gives money to a charity of your choice when you make purchases. There are so many offers that come your way via mail, email, vendors out and about, stores asking you to open an account....they come from the left and right. Sometimes it is hard to decipher all the hows, why and what nots of credit cards...their lingo, their details and ultimately the incentives they offer to get you to chose them! There is a credit card that is offering 0% on purchases and balance transfers for six months. That is a pretty good deal on balance transfers, especially if you are trying to consolidate a few credit cards into one. It is always a hard decision to make when deciding on a credit card, so my only consideration when looking at any credit card to read all the fine print and be sensible when purchasing items with credit!

Hallelujah

It's fall preview week finally!!!! OMG, it has been a bad summer of tv. The networks do their hardest to provide good entertainment during the summer; however, well, to put it nicely...they suck!!! Then when you take cable out of the picture the scene dwindles to even deeper depths of despair. Seriously, if you haven't noticed I am a TV junkie. I feel like I need to be in a room with a bunch of people sitting in a circle, stand up and say, "Hi, I'm Rachel. I am addicted to TV. I have nothing better to do than waste my life in front of the boob tube!"

So anyways.....two of my favorite shows were back on air tonight. The first being Ugly Betty.....yeah for Betty. The show has taken some twists and turns, some of them sad and some of them interesting to the overall plot. Someone died, a dad is still deported, car accidents, paternity being questioned and a boyfriend gone....ohhhh, this is going to be a good year for Betty.

The second show being CSI....Grissom and the gang were searching the deserts surrounding Las Vegas tonight searching for Sarah. She was part of the whole miniature series during last year's show...the murderer was caught and Sarah was found.....it is going to be another interesting year with the whole Grissom/Sarah romance coming to the forefront. As much as I like Grissom and Sarah, my love is holding out for Nick!! He is one hot cop!

So what are your favorite shows from last season that are returning this season? Any new shows that you are looking forward to seeing? I am looking forward to the premier of Pushing Up Daisies which starts next week....the only snag is that it is on at 9pm on Wednesday and I am not usually home from church by then. ALthough abc.com does show all their shows online...yeah for ABC!!!

Skiing in Europe

Doesn't that sound absolutely decadent? Ok, so I am not much of a skier...in fact, I don't know how to ski at all. However, if I had the opportunity to ski in Europe (and have a cute ski instructor) I would learn in a heart beat! I know that many of us don't have the opportunity to just fly away for luxury skiing holidays in Courchevel, France or even Meribel, France, but I know that many of us love to dream. But let me tell you your dreams can be a reality....I love to travel and travel extensively so I know it can be done! So I'm thinking that a lovely holiday staying at luxury ski chalets in St. Anton, Austria is on my list of places to visit and get to know!! A luxury stay doesn't even mean that I need to learn to ski....sipping hot chocolate and reading a book in front of the roaring fire while I ogle the cute boys in ski wear!!! So how bout it? What to go on a little ski trip throughout Europe...France and Austria??

Hey Mr. Postman

I was just at the Post Office mailing off the first of many October birthday presents. I was standing with my back to the postal workers as I was packaging the present...you know taping the box, writing the address and such. And then....one of the postal workers started talking....I swear I was listening to Michael Constantine who plays Gus Portokalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. You might remember him as the dad in the movie. It was kind of eerie...this guy sounded just like him in the movie. I am assuming (and you all know what it means to assume right?) that the guy is Greek.....his name is Valerio. Might that give us a clue? Hmmm....anyway, it was just weird. Although the guy did have a nice voice! But man oh man did he have a bad comb over!!!

Rachel McAskill, Come on Down...

....You're the Next Contestant on the Price is Right!!!

Yep, that is what I am hoping to hear on Thursday, October 18th!!! The new Price is Right with Drew Carey is filming up near Hollywood and they were advertising on tv this week for people to sign up for the studio audience. You know me....I jumped at the chance....signed up, received an email ticket and away we go. I can have a total of four people come with me on the one e-ticket. So me, JaNay, Liz and Abby are going to head up there and pray that we are out going enough to get on the show! The ticket only gets us in line to get another priority ticket for the audience...then you get to be a part of the taping. Lord, please let us get in!!! I scheduled it out far enough so that we can figure out what type of shirts to make...YES, we are going to make T-Shirts. In fact, we have inside information on how to act as Abby's sister has been on Price Is Right AND won the showcase...AMAZING!!! Can you imagine?

Well, I will let you know if we get on and when our episode is aired on TV. And I will especially let you know if any of actually get called on and win!! Wish us luck.

Yep, Another Contest

So, I know that most of you don't care anymore if I enter into any more contests, make finalists in any contests or even win! But hey, someone has to enter, someone has to become a finalist and someone has to win so it might as well be me! So saying that....I have entered into the finalist stage for another DVD from whogets.com. This time you are voting for me to win the movie Control...not quite sure what it is about except for that it is a thriller movie...so it might not be a movie I watch by myself late at night! So if you would so kindly click on Rachel's Control DVD and vote for me I'd greatly appreciate. So ok, I know that the only person who will probably do this is my Mom...Thanks Mom!!!

Dell Computers

If you are like me, computers are essential to your daily life....things that you might do include: email, banking, homework (ugh!), blogging (yeah!), ebay or Craigslist for others (right Marcie?). Just imagine how difficult and inconvenient your life would be without a computer! So is your computer great or do you possibly need a new computer? Well, a new personal computer or a cordless desktop from Dell might be just what you are looking for! Why? Well, let me tell you a bit about the Dell computers.....they are inexpensive, they have wide variety of computers (in fact they will build a computer to your specific need), they have customer service to help walk you through all your questions and they have won all sorts of rewards (that is surely the sign of a good company). Keep in mind that Christmas is just around the corner, and if you are thinking of something great to get your kids this is a great present to get them!!! They will definitely be ecstatic waking up on Christmas morning!

It's getting chilly!

Wow....what a quick and fast turn around from the unbearably hot weather I was telling you all about just a few weeks ago! The last few nights have been cold.....cold enough for me to get my jacket out the other night and wear it. Cold enough that at night I have three blankets over me....yes, that is because I had the window open (right above my bed) and the ocean breeze, well isn't quite breezy it is downright frigid. I like the fresh air coming in at night; however, I am realizing that the window is going to have to be shut from here on out if I want to have a nice night of sleep instead of freezing the whole night. During the day it hasn't been HOT, but it has been pretty comfortable. I can still walk around in capris and flip flops, but there is usually a nice cool breeze blowing through from the ocean! So all in all...I am NOT DYING from the heat!!

Quizzes, Quizzes and more Quizzes

So in addition to my obvious love for trivia and quizzes, I also belong to MySpace. I keep telling myself I am on MySpace to keep track of my nieces and nephews; however, it really is a great way to at least stay in some contact with my friends. Tom sure has made a powerful impact on the world wide web is all I have to say!!! Anyway, you can now add quizzes to your MySpace layout....you know you want stuff on your profile in order to keep people interested!!! So go ahead add a quiz and have fun with it! MySpace quizzes will surely have people passing by more frequently.

Present for the Switzers?

Holly and Rodney received these great Adirondack chairs for wedding shower presents last year. They were handmade for them and sit proudly in their back yard. As a frequent visitor to the Switzer household I have sat in those chairs many, many times! They are super comfy and absolutely wonderful. However, winter is slowly approaching (I know, I know it isn't even Fall yet), but is slowly approaching. You know winter comes quicker in Washington State! Anywho...I got to thinking that they might need to protect those wonderful chairs from the elements! I found a site that sells Adirondack chair covers that are perfect for their chairs. These covers will keep the chairs from rain, wind, sleet, leaves falling from the trees, snow and whatever else God sends down from the sky!!! So if you have chairs that need to be covered, check this site out for your perfect cover!

SNL Video

**Warning** Some might find the following video offensive and vulgar; however, it is stinking hilarious! Only watch if you have a good sense of humor and want to laugh hysterically. I know that at least Marcie will appreciate it!!!

So, I found this video on someone else's blog today and thought it was so funny that I had to share it with you. Justin Timberlake wrote the song "Dick in a Box" for a Christmas show on SNL..the video you are going to watch is the uncensored version, so it is a bit racy! Enjoy!

Wrinkles?

I have always been complimented on my skin. How smooth it is, how there are no wrinkles, and how young I look (I do admit being 33 but being told that I look 25 is quite nice). I've never had a regimented beauty technique. I don't use creams, lotions and special soap. I washed my face for years with regular body soap and then switched to St. Ives years ago. So far, so good! I have been mightily blessed. However, I am getting older, and the wrinkles will start arriving soon! Hopefully soon means 20-30 years (a girl can dream right?) Anyhow, I digress....I thought I should begin looking into different techniques, methods and ideas for keeping healthy, young skin. I found a product that comes from Asia (I have been there, and the women look beautiful and young, so they must be doing something right there!) called Gac Fruit. Gac Fruit is a natural, tropical super fruit...found abundantly in Vietnam....with anti-oxidants that help guard your skin against damage and helps with rejuvenation of your skin. R.G. skin revitalizer (Red Gac) will help you age well from the inside out! Just think...when I am 50 years old I might look the age I really am today...33!

This is the Gac Fruit...the red fruit inside is the vital ingredient in the formula that keeps us ladies looking young and revitalized! The Vietnamese also use it to cook with rice and is used for other medicinal purposes. Amazing how one little fruit...well not so little, it gets to be the size of a cantaloupe, can be used in so many ways!

Long Live the King!!

I am a fan of the King! Yes, I love Jesus; however, I am talking about the King of Rock 'n Roll! Elvis Presley!! And when I say that I am a fan, I don't just mean a fan...I am a fanatic! I am one of those people who believes all the conspiracy theories that he is alive and well! Yes, he is either eating at Dairy Queen (probably a dipped chocolate cone) or he is shopping at Walmart somewhere between Midnight and 3 am! I know I am a dork, but seriously.

Ok, back to the point of why I wrote this post! I went a little buying crazy on Ebay the other day...and bought a few DVD's. What did I buy? Well, I got an Elvis movie, or maybe I got 4!! LOL...I know I went a little crazy, but I couldn't help myself. And they weren't very expensive. I got Kissing Cousins, Girls Girls Girls, Double Trouble and Spinout!! So I'm thinking that I might be watching a few Elvis movies this week before premiere week on TV next week (Thank Goodness it is premiere week finally....the summer shows are so lame!)

London Hot Spots

Ok, so we all know that I love to travel, especially out of the country! However, one of the downfalls to traveling to new places is finding places to eat, drink and hang out at. Yes, you can always find places on your own; however, it is much better to have firsthand knowledge from people who have actually been to the places. There is a review site that allows you to access that information...Yeah! So, one of the places I've been talking about going to with Barb, Charlie, Holly and the rest of their family, is London! Now, they know a lot of places there as they have been there before; however, we can check this site out to find the best London restaurant to eat at and a review for it. I'm sure that somethings have changed since they've been to London last! Not only do they review places in London but throughout the world. You can even go on there and leave your review for places you've visited!!! We all know that word of mouth is a much better way to learn about hot spots then simple research.

Gray Hair?

So does it count as a gray hair when you find it in your eyebrows? Hmmm...that is the question I am asking myself tonight. I know it is a weird question to ask oneself; however, at the ripe old age of 33 I have yet to find any gray hair on my head!! Lucky me! But today when I was out shopping and looking at the mirror in the fitting room I noticed one very light gray eyebrow hair mixed into the rest. So does it count? Does it mean I'm getting old? I do have to say that I am very fortunate to be 33 today and not have any gray hair...I know some of my friends have been finding gray hairs for quite a few years...I'm not naming any names...you know who you are!!! LOL!! Anyway, I just want your opinion as to whether it counts or not and if it means I am getting old or not!!!

My present to myself!

I know this isn't the greatest picture, but this is my birthday present to myself! It is a wonderful Swarkoski (I don't think I spelled it right) crystal necklace. The stones are brownish-orange and are really sparkly....which isn't coming through in the picture. The cross and chain are brown and overall it is quite beautiful.

My store sells other necklaces like this if you like them! I fell in love with it the moment I saw it in the store...even BEFORE I was an employee!!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes today! Blessings to you all!

Go Bachata Crazy!

What you say is Bachata? Well, let me tell you! Bachata dancing is one of biggest hits in the Latin dance scene....let's dance, baby, dance!!! Hmm, you say interesting, but how does one learn how to Bachata dance. There is a 3 volume DVD Bachata Dance Mystery Set that YOU can buy to help you learn the newest and grooviest dance. These Bachata videos are sure to help you learn to be sexy and move Latina style. And if you do decide to buy these videos, then please invite me over and I will learn how to Bachata dance with you (well, maybe if you are a single male buying these!).

The Smell of Pink Bubblegum....

hit me as soon as I opened my bday box from Susana.....I knew there was pink bubblegum in the box somewhere, but wasn't quite sure where!

I did a little digging and lo and behold a Disney Princess Pinanta!!!! It is great (and obviously has pink bubblegum inside). However, I don't want to break it...so I am going to carefully get the goodies out!

So after seeing this wonderful present some of the comments on the outside of the box started to make sense.

She wrote....

"Rachel's birthday should be a big HIT!"

"Hope your birthday is a SMASHing success."

"Don't get all out of WHACK if the candles on your cake set off the fire alarm!"

Thank you so much!! PS....I tried calling you, but no answer, and I am on my way to work!

She also got me the cutest coffee mugs...one has cowboy boots on it and the other has cowboy hats. I know, I know I have weird tastes...and Susana knows that I appreciate the extreme from Disney Princesses (because really, I am one) to cowboy paraphernalia.

Oooohhh, inside I found mini card games, balloons, streamer noise makers, lots of candy (warheads, nerds, sour patch kids, suckers, jawbreakers, etc, etc) and mini lip glosses--cotton candy bon bon lips, pink lemonade and chocolate chip mint lip gloss (my favorite ice cream!). I'm loving the sour patch kids...even though it is just basically SUGAR!!!! Once I wake up a bit more I'll try sucking on some of those warheads...although I might just wait till church tomorrow and make it into a contest for who can keep them in the longest!

PKD Walk

I just wanted to share with you an email that I received from my friend Dan Alexander today. He and his family are participating in the PKD walk this Sunday, September 16th. I want to challenge all of you to help contribute to this cause...I donated $20....will anyone else match that? Rachel

Hey everybody!
I sent out an email some weeks ago about a fund raising walk for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease). Well, the walk is this Sunday the 16th!!!
A few of you have donated already and I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You have been very generous!
If you haven't yet donated I ask that you please consider it. If you gave just 10 or 15 bucks it would really start to add up. And you know, this isn't some random disease that I am raising money for because I am a firefighter...this disease is something I have, my dad has, both brothers have and our kids are probably going to have it too. It will lead to dialysis and kidney transplant and there is no cure...yet. All you have to do is click on the following link, read more about PKD and the Foundation and put a couple bucks on your credit card. You even get a tax deductible receipt. (if you don't like the credit card idea you could always just send me a check made out to "PKD Foundation" and we could do it that way)
Thank you in advance for you thoughtful gift and hopefully a cure will be found soon.
Love,
Dan Alexander

Storage Bins

Yes, I am one of those people who likes everything to be anally organized. Oh, what I could do with storage bins in a garage, I wouldn't even mind the storage cabinets in the garage (as long as they were organized inside).....I would organize my Halloween decorations, my Christmas decorations, extra clothes (i.e. change out clothes for the seasons!).....I would even use one close to the door to the house for extra pantry space. Oh the possibilities for storage bins....I suppose if I was married, I would be organizing all of his stuff too.....what would you use them for?

I missed....

....the UPS man today. Now that doesn't seem like it should be blog worthy news. But do you realize how down hearting it is when you know you are expecting packages and you get home to a UPS "we missed you" sticker on the door? Sad! He will be back tomorrow; however, the note says he can be here anytime from 2pm to 5pm....I have to leave at 4:30 for work, so I am praying that he shows up closer to 2pm then 5pm. Hmmm....one of my packages is from Pepe's....that means my bday package from Susana....Thanks in advance...I'll call you as I open it!

Leather Chairs

Here is a site that sells a brown leather club chair and man oh man it sure looks comfy!!! This is a pretty good site, and what especially pops out at me to begin with is the colors of the site....they are warm and inviting. They also sell leather club chairs, brown leather chairs and recliner leather chairs...do you see a theme with the word leather? If I had to buy one nice piece of furniture this would probably be within the top three! One thing that I really like is that the list the height, width and length...that way you know if it fits your room or not! I also like that the 1-800 number is front and center, so many times you have to search high and low for the number to call someone. It also seems to be fairly easy site to navigate...so if you are looking for leather chairs check them out.

Addiction

Ok, so I like trivia. I like games. I really like competitions. Especially competitions that pit me against other people (whether I know them or not). So you put these factors together and you get a lot of late nights (especially when I don't have to be up early the next morning....bad!). So I found this awesome trivia point keeping site that has challenges, quizzes, and everything you ever wanted in a trivia site! However, it is major addicting...just forwarning you!!! I play their global challenge game every eight hours (or so...if I am home)...I play quizzes on my favorites movies, television shows, music and more (good way to test your memory on old entertainment knowledge!)

Anyway...just thought I'd tell you about it. Click the link below if you feel up to the challenge of beating me in some trivia! I have to tell you I am pretty good...there are only a few personal friends and family members out there that I know can whoop my *ss good!!! Have fun!

Politics and Debates

Here are a few questions for you:
  1. Do you like politics?
  2. Do you have a say about every politician out there?

I WON!!

Finally, finally....all my hard work on entering contests over at whogets.com paid off! You know, the contests that I post up here and constantly ask you to go and vote for me!!! So, I won the Minority Report DVD with Tom Cruise. I should be getting it sometime in the next week or two...just in time for my birthday. Ok, so I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan (at least not of him personally) although he is a fairly decent actor...and I have heard that this movie is good (if you have a review let me know!). I just want to give a huge SHOUT OUT to all those people who voted for me (Mom...and she would've voted over and over and over if they let her). So thanks again. I am still in a few more finalist contests, but at this point I am not the forerunner of any!

What a Good Parent I am

My poor Sadie...she got some scratches on her and I kind of freaked out!! I have to park in a shopping parking lot every day for work and of course there are shopping carts. Come on people how hard is to take your shopping cart and either put it in the proper shopping cart return or back to the store? No....must be way too hard....and obviously when those carts aren't returned they drift through the parking lot. And I personally think that when no one is looking the free carts roll through the lot looking for BRAND NEW BLACK CARS to scratch up against!!! So the earlier in the week I came out to a nasty scratch on the drivers side...ICK! And then a few days ago I was running errands and turning into a lot, had to stop for the person in front of me and then I felt a "BUMP"...yep some guy tapped my back bumper. Now there wasn't any damage, no dents or such, however, it scratched the back bumper!! UGH!! What is up with the scratches?

So, being the overprotective and slightly anal owner of a two-month old BRAND NEW car, I took it into Saturn and had the scratches buffed out and fixed. I did it this morning...and she looks beautiful again (this probably has to do more with the fact that they washed my car!). The scratches on the back you can't even see. The scratch on the side is pretty much gone...it was fairly deep so it couldn't come out completely. I know once I've had my car for a few years that I won't be going into the dealer and having scratches removed, but I just couldn't handle it right now!

Need a Good Read?

Or at least an interesting book to read? Well, I have got an interesting subject for you to read about. Have you ever heard of Mickey Cohen? Yeah, I hadn't either; however, he was a famous mobster--leader of the Jewish mob in the LA area throughout the 30's, 40's and 50's. Hmmm.....Jewish mob? Now that sounds interesting...actually mobsters in general sound interesting (at least to read about, not to meet in a dark alley somewhere!). So there is a new mob biography book out about this guy Mickey Cohen and I think that if you are looking for an interesting book to read this just might be it!!

Here is the press release about this book to give you a bit more of an idea about it:

Marilyn Monroe, JFK & RFK Conspiracy Theories - What Was the Role of Jewish Mobster Mickey Cohen?

Celebrity Gangster Mickey Cohen has been linked to both Kennedy Assassinations and Marilyn Monroe's death. Exhaustive research has explored the Mafia's role in the Kennedy assassinations, but Hollywood's Celebrity Gangster by Brad Lewis brings together for the first time the alleged role of the Jewish Mob and Mickey Cohen.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 12, 2007 -- A new book by a celebrity biographer finally tells the story of Celebrity Gangster Mickey Cohen, the west coast leader for Jewish mob boss Meyer Lansky, boxer, bodyguard, blackmailer, pimp, bookie czar, gambler, haberdasher, restaurateur, racketeer, thief, and Robin Hoodlum to the poor and dispossessed.
"Hollywood's Celebrity Gangster, The Incredible Life and Times of Mickey Cohen" (ISBN: 1-929631-65-0), by Brad Lewis, examines the mixed morality life of the Los Angeles-based mobster who reigned from the 1930s until his death in 1976.
Some of the facts featured in "Hollywood's Celebrity Gangster" include:
 How Mickey Cohen made extortion sex tapes of Marilyn Monroe.
 Cohen's introduction of Monroe to JFK through Sinatra and Peter Lawford.
 The Jewish mob's concerns about JFK's Israeli Politics.
 Mickey Cohen, JFK, and Frank Sinatra dated some of the same women.
 Why did Cohen meet regularly with Menachem Begin and attorney Melvin Belli?
 How RFK threatened Mickey Cohen when he was naked in a prison shower.
 JFK assassin Sirhan Sirhan worked for television star Desi Arnaz and at the Santa Anita racetrack, one of Cohen's gambling strongholds.
 Lee Harvey Oswald's assassin Jack Ruby (Rubinstein) idolized Cohen and dated his girlfriend Candy Barr.
 Cohen's links to Carlos Marcello, David Ferrie, Jim Braden, and Al Gruber.
 How Mickey Cohen ran a gambling operation in the Ambassador Hotel, site of the RFK assassination.

"But Bobby Kennedy, this snotty little guy, ques¬tioned like an out-and-out punk, and I don't mean this with any animosity " -- Mickey Cohen.
"Mickey Cohen would have objected to this book's publication," said the author, Brad Lewis. "His blackmail targets included Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, and department store heir Alfred Bloomingdale. The most social of any mobster in history, Mickey bridged the gap between Hollywood, Las Vegas, and Washington. Mickey had the ear of many powerful people, including William Randolph Hearst, Richard Nixon, Reverend Billy Graham, and Washington Post columnist Drew Pearson. Enemies like Robert Kennedy were relentless in trying to topple Mickey."
"I found 'Celebrity Gangster' intense, dramatic, a real page turner," said Irwin Winkler, producer of Goodfellas, Rocky, Raging Bull, and The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight.
Brad Lewis is a novelist, biographer, playwright and former actor. As an oral surgeon, he practiced in both New York and Beverly Hills. His offices treated numerous celebrities including Richard Nixon, Frank Sinatra, Willie Mays, Diane Keaton, Hugh Downs, Henry Mancini and Henry Kissinger. Lewis is co-author of "My Father, Uncle Miltie," the bestselling biography of fabled comedian Milton Berle.
"Hollywood's Celebrity Gangster" is currently available for purchase at all online booksellers including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Booksamillion.com and at local bookstores. For more information visit www.BradleyLewis.com & www.BradleyLewis.org.

HOT and even HOTTER

I don't know exactly what the temperature has been around here the last four to five days, but it has been HOT!!! During the day it isn't so bad; however, at night when I am trying to sleep? It is unbearable. Up until about a week ago, I was able to pull a lightweight blanket over myself...now I'm lucky if I can bear sleeping with all my clothes on! : ) Seriously, I'm lying in bed sweating and no breeze whatsoever...no fan, no air conditioning and the air isn't circulating well in my room. I'm trying not to complain; however, when I am trying to sleep and all I feel is rivulets of sweat pouring down my body...it makes it a tad hard. Needless to say I am not getting good rest every night....hard to actually fall asleep and uncomfortable the whole night! Ahhhhhhhhhh.....
