Suspense Book Review

Do you crave a good suspense book? How about a suspense with a touch of Christianity thrown in? I'm not usually a person who reads suspense books (although I have read some Peretti in the past that put shivers up my spine); however, right from the get go I was hooked on this book.

I was recently asked to review the book Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze and I was extremely pleased with this read. I really enjoyed the character development and the plot of the book. Ms. Hinze is an excellent writer and I think you will enjoy it as well.

This Little Prayer of Mine

Have you ever heard a small child pray? The wonder? The innocence they have when praying to God? I love listening to small voices pray for family, friends, animals and even for the things they want.

We all know how important it is for mamas, papas, aunties, uncles and grandparents (as well as friends) to teach young children to pray. In order for a child to grow in the way of the Lord they must first learn to pray.

Dancing With My Father

Let me tell you about one of my most precious memories of being in the presence of the Lord. I was in my early 20's and at church one night (this was during a revivial time at our church and we had meetings 3-5 nights a week). Usually I was up front worshipping or praying for people, but this particular night I was in the back room (just off the sanctuary) holding someone's baby. I was dancing around the room rocking the baby to sleep and instead it felt as if I were dancing with God my Father. I hadn't up to that point had a lot of one-on-one intimate times with God where I felt that I could tangibly feel Him surrounding me, hugging me and letting me know that I was His...it will be a night I remember forever.

This new book that I received from Waterbrook Multnomah to review peaked my interest just from the title Dancing with My Father. This is a great book where the author is helping us to understand where true joy comes from. It doesn't come from the things of the world (and that seems to be where all our expectations lay) but rather in delighting in the Lord as David did. Delighting in such an abandoned way that joy can't help but bubble up inside of us and express outwardly in dance! Through difficult circumstances, tragedy and even the daily grind women find it hard to give up on the world and let God have control of it all.

This is proving to be a powerful book. As I'm going through it I truly thought it would be a quick read; however, there are questions and reflections at the end of each chapter which make me think more in depth about what I am reading and how it is affecting my life! I am about half way through right now and diving in even more!

The author of this book is Sally Clarkson: She is a popular speaker, known across the nation and internationally for her work with women. She is the author of several books, including The Mission of Motherhood, The Ministry of Motherhood, and Seasons of a Mother’s Heart. She has worked in various ministries, including Campus Crusade for Christ. With her husband, Clay, she is cofounder of Whole Heart Ministries, which encourages and equips Christian parents. The Clarksons, parents of four, live near Colorado Springs, Colorado.


The other book I received was Mother Daughter Duet by Cheri Fuller and Ali Plum.

Tea with Hezbollah Book Review

Tea with Hezbollah is a great book and a great insight into events going on in the Middle East. Not very many individuals are willing to take a trip into such a controversial region of the world as the Middle East is right now. In fact, many of us would like to simply forget that the US even has issues with the Middle East....if we forget about it, it might go away. However, that is not the case and this book is an excellent book for us to open our eyes and see that there are individuals there that need our love and the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Christian Vampire Book Review

**Congratulations Holly! You won!!**

I know, I know...the post title sounds a bit oxymoronish! How can you possibly have a book that deals with Vampires within the perspective of Christianity? Even more to think about...how could the author come up with such a viable subject?

How many Twilighters are out there that just absolutely loved the Twilight Series? Hundreds and thousands of people have read the books and seen the movies (Yes, I am well aware of the fact that New Moon came out today!). I for one am not part of that crowd. Don't get me wrong I like the mystery of vampires and such, but it hasn't really interested me that much.

I did receive a new book to read and review called Thirsty by Tracey Bateman and I actually thought it was an excellent book. The book revolves Nina, a recovering alcoholic, who has pretty much destroyed her life, her family and her career. After finishing rehab she moves back to her hometown, taking her daughter along for Spring Break, and has to learn to deal with the past, present and future.

Upon her arrival strange things began to happen and she learns "stories" about local vampires. She scoffs at the stories and doesn't think they are real until it begins to involve her teenage daughter!

I really enjoyed this book, more because it focuses on the redemption and recovery of the main character rather than the vampires. But I find it fascinating how the author can combine a faith in God with the concept of vampires! I would highly recommend this book, especially if you are a Twilight fan...I think you will enjoy!

Along with this book I received a copy of Touched by a Vampire (Discovering the Hidden Messages in the Twilight Series) by Beth Felker Jones.

Summary

Ok...so I am going to be honest with all of my blogging friends, I did not read this book. I started to read it and then got busy getting ready to go out of town for a week or so and wasn't able to get back to it. In fact, I haven't read one word from any books since Friday and I usually read a book every day or so....

Book Giveaway!

As I stated a few posts back I joined up with WaterBrook Multnomah publishing to review books...and GIVE them away!!!

The book that I read between yesterday and today...yes, I read it in less than a day...it was that good...is called The Night Watchman by Mark Mynheir. I'm not usually one who appreciates crime/murder mystery books; however, this book was fantastic! It moved quickly, had some surprise twists and turns and throughout the book still had God as the underlying theme!


This book is about an Orlando detective, Ray Quinn, who is forced to resign due to a shooting that left him barely alive and his partner dead. As he is working as a night watchman at a condo complex there is a murder-suicide involving a pastor and a dancer/stripper girl. The pastor is accused of murdering the girl and killing himself; however, the sister doesn't believe that her brother would commit murder or suicide.

The sister comes to Ray for help proving her brother's innocence, however, Ray doesn't want to get involved with it. Yet something keeps dragging him into the case until he is in too deep to get out! Investigating the case with the pastor leads to investigating high standing community officials, a strip club owner, a cop gone bad and the murder of his partner.

There are definitely twists and turns that I wasn't expecting and the characters are greatly written and drawn out so that you can fully experience who they are. Anyone who appreciates a good mystery will definitely enjoy this book!
