Here Fishy, Fishy...

When my Dad goes fishin' he really goes fishin'!!!

How would you like to look down in the Ocean water and see this trailing off of your hook? Hmmm.....I think not!

My Dad is the guy on the left in the sunglasses...he was in Florida last week and did a little Tarpon fishing. The fish that is in the water here is the same fish that they are showing off. My dad said that the fish bit and took off a runnin'...it took him at least an hour and a half to reel the sucker in!

And then what does he do? He lets it go back home to the water!!! I guess these aren't the greates fish to eat, and catching them is all about the sport of it!

Today is my Dad's birthday...Happy Birthday Pops!

Anywho...Shannon, Ernie, Mason and their friend Mark went out this last weekend for something like 6 hours (WAY too long to try and fish in my opinion)...and Shannon finally caught her fish.

Test

Saturday morning: woke up at 5:40 am to get ready for my test at Green River Community College.

Once we finally got started and I opened my test packet I realized how much harder this test was than I thought. I had two hours to finish the test and finished with ten minutes to spare.

Personally, I don't feel as if I did that great. But I will find out in a month if I passed. Thank you to all who encourage me before and afterwards. I know that I am a good test taker and that I shouldn't worry, and at this point I really can't worry...what's done is done!!

Target!!!

I know this sounds retarded...

...but I am totally excited for Friday morning!!

I am going over to the other side tomorrow so I can take my test on Saturday morning. Tomorrow night I am spending the night with my sister Camille (who is about to pop...she is due to have a baby in two weeks).

On Friday, I am meeting up with my good, good friend Sarah and her son Quentin!! I haven't met Quentin since he was born in December, and I am totally excited to meet up with her. The dorky, retarded part? We are meeting at Target in Issaquah...and I am super excited!!!! We don't have Target here in ML (aka Moses Hole) and I am over the moon with knowing that I get to walk through Target for an hour, just looking, talking and checking it out....dollar spot, clearance, etc, etc....oh goody!

Take Your Nerd to Work Day...

Mason came to work today for a few hours..
he has his own pair of safety glasses...however, there is no glass in them and he looks kinda like a nerd...a cute nerd, but a nerd nonetheless!!

Side Note: My sister is appalled that he came to work looking like he did today!! LOL...he dressed himself in a long-sleeve pajama top (he is still getting over a bad case of strept throat so he might be cold), long pants that are a bit short and shoes with no socks...plus I don't think he had a shower today!!! LOL...oh to be 4 again!

Courage Classic Bike Tour

This is Alissa at the top of Stevens last year!!

My dear friend Alissa is once again gearing up to participate in the 2008 Courage Classic Bike Tour...these men and women ride their bikes a in-humane amount of miles...going up the mountains all to support charity!

Alissa's charity is supporting the Mary Bridge Foundation which helps fund the Child Abuse Intervention and Prevention Program. We all know, or have known (or heard about) a child who has gone through some type of abuse, and we can make a difference in stopping this in another child's life. Donating just a few dollars, will help Alissa make her goal of $500 (that's not much...let's see it get higher!!!)...Click here to help out. I encourage people to match my $20!!

Corny...but worth it

That's my movie evaluation of Mama Mia!!! I just went and saw it and it really was a fun movie. Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan are of course fantastic...who knew they could sing!!! And the girl that plays her daughter sings really well too.

If you didn't know this movie is based off a Broadway musical based on ABBA songs...the placing of songs in this movie is superb.

Well, I'm off to dinner...just wanted you all to know that this is a movie to see! I'm sure all those other people who bought out the shows for Batman think that that movie is better...but really, do we need another batman movie?

Eavesdropping

Is it considered eavesdropping when you are deliberately trying to hear a conversation? It's just that those conversing are LOUD!!!???!!!

LOL!

Seriously...everyday I go to the bookstore cafe, I hear so many asinine conversations that it boggles my mind. Most of these conversations do occur between teenagers so that might tell you something right there.

The other day I heard one "older" teen (probably 16-17) telling a "younger" (maybe 13-14) all about drug possession and how if your caught it's a felony and they'd lock you up for good. She continued to tell the other person all about felonies, misdemeanors, and such...the sad thing is that she just sounded like a pompous teenager that knows everything under the sun. Sheesh...

Just now I heard two other girl teenagers talking about the applications you can add on MySpace (which are pretty much the same as Facebook), and she was specifically talking about a game called Mafia Wars...now this is a fun game (I have Mob Wars on Facebook)....and how it just lures people into a life a crime. And if they accidentally shoot someone on Mafia Wars, then you just might go out and shoot someone in real life! Really!!!

Interesting what you overhear when you listen!

86 Year-Old Man and His Citizenship

I just finished reading the following story over at Komonews.com. It is the story of how an 86 year-old Bellevue man may lose his citizenship after 40 some years because of his alleged participation in the Nazi army, and the lives that were taken during that time.

Just to let you know that I am totally patriotic, love my country and love life. However, I find it hard to believe that the US would REALLY revoke someone's citizenship after 40+ years. Do they know the full story behind his involvement in the Nazi army? Was he pressured into service, which happens quite often in countries outside the US?

It just kind of makes me sad that this man has lived here for so long, calls this place home at age 86 may be forced out. It is simply food for thought...we should stop and think about things like this, and how the decisions we make now may impact our lives decades from now.

SEATTLE -- The Justice Department is seeking to revoke the U.S. citizenship of a Bellevue, Wash. man accused of serving in a Nazi unit that participated in the murder of more than 17,000 Serbians during World War II, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, 86-year-old Peter Egner served in the Nazi-controlled Security Police and Security Service in German-occupied Belgrade from April 1941 to September 1943.

During the first nine months of his service, Egner, who was born in Yugoslavia, allegedly was part of a Nazi mobile killing unit. The complaint said captured documents show that Egner's unit participated in executing 11,164 people, most of them Jewish men, in the fall of 1941.

In early 1942, the complaint says, the Security Police and Security Service murdered 6,280 Serbian Jewish women and children. Daily over the course of two months, those women and children were taken from the camp and forced into a specially designed van, in which they were gassed with carbon monoxide.

During an interview with investigators in early 2007, Egner allegedly admitted to volunteering for the Security Police and Security Service and serving as a guard and interpreter during interrogations of political prisoners.

"Interrogations by SPSS personnel sometimes involved severe torture, often followed by execution," the complaint notes.

He also allegedly admitted that he guarded prisoners they were being transferred to the concentration camp of Semlin and the execution site of Avala, both near Belgrade.

Reached by telephone at his home, Egner confirmed his identity to The Associated Press, but said he was unaware of the complaint.

Asked about his alleged service with the Nazis, he said: "I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sorry. Bye."

According to the Justice Department, Egner came to the U.S. In 1960 and was granted citizenship in 1966.

"No one who participated, as we allege the defendant did, in the diabolical Nazi program of persecution is entitled to retain U.S. Citizenship," Office of Special Investigations Director Eli M. Rosenbaum said in a statement.

The Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations has been working since 1979 to investigate people living in the U.S. who participated in Nazi persecution.

I love learning...

...new words!! I would go as far to say that I am a word junkie, as evidenced by the amount of word games I play over at Facebook!!

In my studies of historical events I was reading up on the Zoot Suit Riots. Fascinating subject...revolves around events in LA during WWII between sailors and the local Chicanos.

Anywho...back to my new word....

Pachuco

It refers to the Chicanos/Mexicano youths who wore the Zoot Suits during this time period! I had to go to some of the Mexicans (so not being racist...we simply have a LARGE amount of Mexican men and women who work here!) here and test my new word out. They find me funny and laugh, but then look impressed when I can explain the origination of the word! Hmm...my studying is paying off!! LOL!!!

I find it funny that we learn Spanish slang constantly here at work, and then I find them when studying too!! Too funny....

Test

So I have exactly two weeks before my big WA State Content exam for history/social studies (aka...the PRAXIS Exam).

I'm a wee bit nervous! I know I can do it, but there is just so much information that can be on this test and it is a bit overwhelming!!! So I am here at the library to spend a day studying...can I tell you that I really love Wikipedia! They blurbs about subjects are short and concise at the beginning and then give further detailed info...if I can process a bunch of short, concise pieces and retain it then I think I will be good.

My test is scheduled for July 26 @ 7:30 am at Green River Community College! Pray for me!

New Reality Show

First of all....this post is for Marcie!!!! I was getting online to do some posts and found a comment from her, and I quote, "Dude, you need to write a new post!" Obviously my reading audience is protesting and about to mutiny....

So the last thing I need is to be hooked on a new reality show...no matter how interesting it is!!! I was sitting at home last night flipping through the channels...not a whole lot on Friday nights. I watched So You Think You Can Dance (yes, it is usually on Thursdays; however, our Fox station was broadcasting about the fires on Thursday and replayed it for us on Friday...wasn't that nice of them? I digress...back on track) and What Not to Wear (love me some Stacy and Clinton!!!). And then the random, mindless zipping through stations....

...and what did I find? MTV Juvies!!!

OMG!!! This show is frankly, quite funny. The show is obviously on MTV and it follows two teens who are booked into juvie for anything from burglary, to reckless endangerment to being reported as a runaway (some mom actually had her son arrested in her home and taken to juvie because she claimed he had run away...me? I think I would be excited if my child really did runaway and then come home!). They show the whole process of being brought in, the intake session, their stay and their court day! Who knows, maybe teens watching this show will see it and realize that they might go there if they don't shape up...if it helps anyone than hallelujah.

I don't think this will be a show that I religiously watch like some of my other reality shows, but it was fun to watch on a nothing is on Friday night!
