Rearview Mirror
I am assuming (and yes Mama Q in high school algebra always said, "Never assume because all it does is make an ass out of u and me!!") that the lady behind me in the silver car at about 4:15 pm at the corner of Division and Broadway in Moses Hole, WA was playing Itsy Bitsy Spider with someone (hopefully someone young enough to appreciate it) in the backseat. Granted, I could not hear what she was saying...nor can I confirm that there was someone in the backseat although she kept talking towards the back....but I can tell you that she seemed to be making the hand motions for Itsy Bitsy Spider. HOWEVER, all she did was the water spout...what happened to the rain and the sun coming out?
I guess I'll never know.....
....but that is what I observed today through the rearview mirror. Strange things you see in those rearview mirrors.

I have done this many of times and now I am wondering if there is a post out there about me..
happy almost birthday.
D
It seems like I see more and more people cussing me than anything pleasant. Found you on SITS!
I'll have to try that sometime. I usually don't look in my rear view to see what's going on in the cars behind me. Seems like you could learn a lot (like whether or not they belong in a white coat lol)
Happy SITS Day!
Happy SITS day!
lol @ Moses Hole. You're funny.
Another very cute post!! I hope there was someone in the backseat!
When my son was 8 months old he cried everytime I stopped singing that song.. I sang it for hours..
Cute post! Happy Feature Day!!
Yup. One benefit to the cell phone era is you can say/sing whatever you want and people will think you are on the phone. Hand motions however ...
That's too funny! I have to admit that I'm guilty of doing that! I never really thought about what the other drivers were seeing!
Well, one can only wonder what was going on if, in fact, there wasn't anyone else in the car.....
Cute post! I've seen people doing that...and I've done it myself! ;)
Happy SITS Day! :)
That's great! I love to people watch when I'm in the car. All I usually see is people picking their noses or singing along with the radio though!
lol. That's funny! I never see stuff like that.
Congrats on being the SITS queen of the day!
Happy SITS day. Very funny story. I thought I was the only one who got lectured on what assume stood for. And be glad she wasn't doing something awful like picking her nose or (even more dangerous) putting on mascara. I've seen drivers do both of those things although not simultaneously. (Ugh, did I spell that right?)
Happy SITs Day! I often wonder what people think when they see me. Sometimes I'll turn around and say something to the backseat even when nobody is there if I've been talking to myself and feel a little self conscious. :)
Congratulations on your big SITS Day. Being a featured blogger is a BIG DEAL. Have a great day basking in the limelight.
I used to do where is thumbkin a lot I am sure people thought I was nuts!
That's a new one:) I'll have to pay attention to my mirror more often:)
That's funny. My new line to my boys in the winter has been, "Mama has to focus on driving." My oldest now says, "No mama, pocus on me, not driving."
Very observant! It's good to find humor in the smallest things!
Happy SITS day!
HA! That's funny. Congratulations on your SITS day!!
Too funny! I often wonder about what the people BEHIND me think because I have the mirror flipped so I can watch the girls but still see out the back... I'm talking in that rear view all the time, and I bet there have been times when people behind me thought I was talking to them or worse...
Hahaha thats great. My sister and I once tried to get people's attention by being a huge contrast--I sat rigidly still and looked nearly constantly straight ahead while driving and she was ALL over the place rockin' out. We were watching to see if anyone noticed...and out of about 50 cars, I think maybe 2 made any sort of facial expression to make it seem like they saw us? I think you would have noticed :-D
Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS Day! I've often wondered if people think I'm insane doing things with those unseen human beings in the back seat.
The things we'll do to entertain toddlers! Happy SITS day!
Now I'm going to have to go around constantly checking out my rearview mirror ... that could be some awesome blog fodder!
LOL..
Ha ha ha! Funny post! Happy SITS day!
aw! that's so cute!!
Very cute post! some people are just in a world of their own:)
Happy SITSday:)
Funny how people think they are invisible in their cars!
Happy SITS day.
Thank goodness she didn't do the sun part considering she was driving.
funny...
Happy Saucy day.
I love trying to figure out what the people around me are doing in their cars. Though I seem to always get caught at it. Especially when I'm peering through the rear view looking around.
What a neat simple perspective on life that we all probably overlook!
Happy SITS day!
You know, I'm always afraid if I stare into the mirror too long, they'll know I'm watching them!
Happy SITS Day!
Haha, now... what if she wasn't playing itsy bitsy spider, what might she have been doing?? *giggle*
How funny! I should pay more attention to my rear-view mirror. :)
That is so cute! I remember once singing something for my daughter in the car, and the two girls in the car in front of me were laughing at me (in a good way, I think). The things we do for our kids!
What a cute idea! A window on your world. Thanks
How funny! Now, I am going to be checking the rear view mirror more often and not just because I am driving.
Happy SITS Day!
After I am done visiting, I am going to check out Lisa Bearnson's Blog and see what Peachycheap.com is all about.
Happy SITS Day!
I will now be singing Itsy Bitsy Spider for the rest of my day!
Happy SITS day to you!
Happy SITS day!
Hi Rachel Ann!
I love to watch other people in their cars. It's like they think they're in a protective bubble and no one can see them do goofy stuff. I know I do. Have a great day!

Very funny. I love to watch people in the rear view mirror, but it makes me wonder what people see me do!
Too funny! I do this sometimes....try to figure out what the person behind me is doing. Comet to think of it....I'll bet that I completely confuse the person in front of me trying to figure out...."What exactly IS that lady doing?!" Your post made me laugh!
Thanks for sharing! Happy SITS!
Happy SITS day!! I love looking in the side mirror when my husband is driving, people act much different when they think everyone else is distracted in their cars!
Happy SITS day! I love your blog header!
That's funny! but usually, I'm the one that's doing all the crazy stuff in the car, getting noticed, wondering if people think I am crazy one!!
I love rear view mirrors.
I wonder how many people watch me in the car because I dance and sing and get crazy with my kids. We have the most fun in the car. Its good times, but I know what you mean. When I am alone in the car I watch the other peole through my mirrors to so as to keep it a secret that I am watching what they are doing. Guessing what they are saying. Its fun.
That's a hoot!
Happy SITS Day!
I'm here from SITS. Thanks for a chuckle to start my morning off!
I do that a lot when I drive...though I'm not sure I've ever seen that! =)
Happy SITS day to you!
Ha! The embarrassing things we do for our kids in public hoping nobody sees us!
That's too funny!
Congrats on your SITS feature!
Wow...i think i may want to watch what i do in the car alone now. Hehe. Just kidding! Actually, maybe not.
Happy SITS day!
hehe. That is totally cute! And much sweeter than watching someone pick their nose. ;)
Good observation. There's plenty of humor out there on those streets.
It's nice to know you take the time to stop and observe wants around you...sweet :)
I have my mirror rigged so I can flip it (you know, for night driving and headlights) to see my children. This morning we were "Kung Fu Fighting" on the way to school. Wonder what the guy in front of me wondered?!
Oh, I once saw a mini van mom taking a hit off a joint while driving down the road. Her three carseats were empty, thank goodness.
Happy SITS day!

I guess sometimes the spider overcomes and just keeps right on climbin!
Haha...that's great. I sometimes try to figure out what people in other cars are doing, especially when they are obviously singing along to the radio. Do you remember my story about seeing a guy blowing bubbles? He didn't have a little one in backseat, either!
Ha! So much fun to spot other people having a good time in their cars.
Hmm that really makes me think what people are writing about me and my 7 month old...
LOL you are very observant! I'll have to pay closer attention to my rearview mirror from now on!
I love it when you witness something sweet! Instead of the idiot who doesn't put their kid in a carseat.
Congrats on being Saucy!!!
I love the itsy bitsy spider!! I'm going to be singing it in my head all day now!
I can only imagine what people think I'm doing when I am singing "Taxi Taxi Riding in the Backseat" from Noggin to Hurricane Luka in the backseat and doing the hand movements I made up for that one.
That's hilarious. I love watching people really belt out a tune from the radio, singing and bobbing their heads. Never seen Itsy Bitsy Spider though. Happy SITS day.
LOL! You know...those new wireless headsets make people look really, really weird too... could have been? Never know ♥
I'm always looking around at people in their cars, wondering what their story is...where they're going...what song they're rocking out to. But if I saw what you saw, I'd giggle.
Happy SITS day! Gosh that's a nice thing to see. I usually catch people picking their noses. :)
Funny post! LOL! Happy SITS day to you!
I love wearing sunglasses when I drive because you can check people out in your mirrors and they can't tell you are looking at them! lol Happy SITS Day!! :)
Oh no! I sure hope I haven't done anything while driving in my car that is blog worthy : )
Sometimes you've just got to include the hand motions when singing in the car! It is great that this woman was more focused on the moment than the possibility of looking foolish to those around her. We should all be taking notes.
It's as if people don't think you can see them...
Hi from SITS! It's amazing what people will do in the car. I've caught people picking their nose (and zits)!
I agree you do see some strange things in that mirror. Cute story.
Hi from SITS...
hey great post....I am now going to always be checking out my rearview mirror.... its amazing what you might see....
I dont so much use my rear view mirror for checking out other people--but everyone I drive past, I wonder- is my car that dirty? Do I look that crazy? Is she fatter than me?
Guess I am a little self-invloved huh?
Hey Rachel Ann- From your bio we sound like we could be long lost soul sisters. Anyway, I also wonder when I'm going crazy things in the car with my little monkey if people are watching and wondering what in the heck I'm doing.
What an adorably funny post! Loved it.
Elaine
Too cute and quaint! Love it...I might pay more attention to the people around me now, and notice more than them singing like they're on American Idol, or picking there nose!
LOL I often wonder what other folks in traffic are thinking of me when I'm busily entertaining my kiddo in the back seat. Goodness knows Itsy Bitsy Spider is probably among the least dramatic things! :D
By the by, I'm glad that you said it the right way - I almost got into a brawl at a Gymboree class once over Itsy Bitsy vs. Eensy Weensy Spider. Eensy Weensy? I don't think so!
Cheers from a SITSta!
You're absolutely right. There are some odd things happening from that vantage point. Happy SITS day!
I love watching people from my mirror... such interesting tales to come up with about other people!
So funny -- You are just like my husband. He notices everything that everybody around him is doing. Y'all are very observant people!
Congrats on being saucy today. It's funny what you can see in your rear view mirror when people don't know you are watching them.
Much better than some things you could have seen in your rear view mirror!
Ha ha! How funny! I like the ones who are totally into the radio, playing drums on the steering wheel!
great post. here from SITS.
If I spent any time looking in the rear view mirror, I'd probably crash!
I always love watching people singing and see if I can't find the radio station they have on. But I'll admit, I've done my own crazy dancing, singing, and kid song motions in my car... hmm... maybe it was me you saw?
Love people watching. I can only imagine what people think of me when I'm driving my 3 little ones around town...I bet I make a few laugh!
All too often, when I look in the rearview it's only to find out which of the girls is pinching the other in the backseat... Great post!
Found you through SITS. Great post. :o)
How cute and funny!! I'm sure people have thought that about me, traveling with my little girl in the backseat!!
:)

Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?
How sweet!
- a SITSta
Thanks for getting that song stuck in my head now!
Happy SITS day!
So now I am going to watch and see what everyone is doing...and maybe tone down what I am doing...lol
I so needed the laugh today. Great Blog.
I see lots of people talking to themselves. I never do that : )
I suppose that's better than the time I watched an elderly gentlemen talk to his crotch on the Ohio Turnpike. Can you even imagine that conversation?!
I wonder what people think when they see me in the a.m. taking Prayse to school. Our song of choice is "IIiiiii'mmmmmm Taking Home a Baby Bumblebee!"
Now I wonder what on earth people are thinking when I'm doing hand gestures and waving about when doing the hokey pokey in the car with my two year old!
Yeah... I've been caught doing "Going on a Lion Hunt" in the car before.... Once by someone I knew who was dying laughing watching me. Gotta love those private moments that aren't quite so private!
HAPPY SITS DAY!
I agree - you really do see some strange things when you sit and watch the people behind you.
Moses Lake? Really? I think this is the first time I have come across a blog that mentioned ML! I went to High School in that town.
LOL. I've seen that woman too! BG
Happy SITS day ( a day late, sorry).
Hello!
Coming over from SITS!
I always wonder what people must think of me. I'm always singing or dancing or BOTH in the car with my toddler. Good times!
For some reason, I think when I am in my car, no one can see me. I sing, dance, talk to myself... I'm sure I get looks from other drivers... "what is she doing?", LOL!
Cute post! I do all sorts of crazy things in the car.
too funny :D
I hope you had a great SITS day! So sorry I missed yesterday. Hope it was enjoyable for you!
Isn't amazing what we see from our cars when we are aware of our surroundings, even from the rearview mirror? Love this!
I'm over from Sits.
I see you like to scrapbook...so do I.
I find it hard to find time for bible study too (per your profile). but I've found lately, that if i just pick a time and stick to it, it just gets easier.
anyway, nice "meeting" you.
i love people watching. you never know what you're going to see next.
